A woman believed to be the last native speaker of the Eyak language in the north-western US state of Alaska has died at the age of 89.
Marie Smith Jones was a champion of indigenous rights and conservation. She died at her home in Anchorage.

It's neat to see that she dedicated her life to preserving her language. This happens very rarely. Languages die all the time for which there are no written manuscript to keep the knowledges of that language alive. We often loose hundred of years of knowledge from different populations when their language dies.
